It is also called a Domain Name. When choosing a domain it's best to keep it as simple as you can without varying too far from your actual company name or the description of the business that you are involved in. 

A Domain Name can’t be shared between two different sites. Each domain name is unique and it is assigned on a first come - first serve basis.Registering a domain name is similar to obtaining a trademark. It is the way that you are identified on the World Wide Web.  Once it is secured, the owner has exclusive rights over it.  The process of obtaining it involves applying and registering with a governing body.

The cost of registering a Domain Name is $70.00. This covers the cost of posessing it for the first 2 years.  After that, the cost is $35.00 per year.  Digital Resources, Inc. offers the search and registration free for its Website Design clients. For all others, the charge is $50.00 in addition to the standard Internic charges.

What should I look out for?

Some Web Service companies who have offered inexpensive or even free registration services have wrongly registered their customers Domain Names to themselves.  If this happens and cannot be cleared up, the desired name is the property of the Internet service company.Make sure that you are dealing with a reputable Web Service company.
